Back from the dead once more to bring you a brand new dev blog. The last 2 weeks have been quite hectic and due to several contractual obligations I can only tell you so much so today's blog will be a pretty short one!

Too Many Legs to Count: Exploring Creature Motion-Capture.

I was asked to help out at my friend Yaro's motion capture shoot where he would be recording quadruped and bipedal motion capture for creatures and immediately said yes.

Yaro is pursuing a master's degree where he is exploring the recording of creature motion capture using human actors. For this research, he needed to do a shoot of him acting as both a raptor and a fantasy quadruped creature. The shoot preparation went well and I got to try my hand at setting up a sidewaist marker set from memory, Good practice!

For the quadruped movement yaro had built custom stilts for his arms and placing markers for these proved a bit of a challenge, but apart from the occasional wristflip, it worked out fine.

It was cool to see Yaro "embody" the creatures he was acting out. It was definitely an Oscar-worthy performance.

I ended up behind the reference camera at this shoot for a good 3 hours so I felt the least I could do was get comfortable :)

Contractually obligated to not say too much!

I am going to have to be very careful in what I say here as I would like to not get sued, but as of 2 weeks ago, I've started work on a prototype for a Triple-A company! Im working alongside a team of other students and we'll be working on this project for a set amount of time!

The prototype will not be publicly available anytime soon and after we finish I'll only be able to show it to people in person as the content is under strict NDA but safe to say im very excited about the project!

Im working with a great team and I'm really invested in the concept so im certain I'll be able to put my all into it!

Internship search in full swing.

Last week I had an interview for a performance capture position at a major game studio and im hoping I get it! The company has made some really cool games and I love their animation style and content so it would be a cool experience to work there.

Currently, im waiting to hear back from them so here's to hoping!

That's all for this week. Im not sure how much I'll be able to share as the NDA project progresses but I will be continuing to share my work done on both motion capture and my martial arts combat game! (I haven't forgotten, it's just on the back burner for now.)

See you in the next one!
